Study of γ d → π + π − d Reaction in an Energy Region of 0.67 ≤ E γ ≤ 1.08 GeV

Double charged pion photoproductions from the deuteron have been studied at Research Center for Electron Photon Science (ELPH), Tohoku University. Tagged photon beams in an energy range of 0.67 ≤ E _γ ≤ 1.08 GeV were impinged on the liquid deuteron target. Produced charged particles were observed with the Neutral Kaon Spectrometer2 (NKS2). The γ d → π ⁺ π ^? d process was clearly separated among the three charged tracks. We obtained the photon energy dependence of the normalized yields of this process.     

Study of Strangeness Photoproduction on the Neutron in the Threshold Region

Photoproduction of the neutral kaon on the deuteron has been investigated at the Research Center for Electron Photon Science, Tohoku University. We constructed the Neutral Kaon Spectrometer-2 for the detection of charged particles from the decay of the neutral kaon and the hyperon. We obtained a momentum distribution of K ⁰ with the inclusive measurement. It was consistent with the previous measurement. The total cross section of γ + d → K ⁰ + Λ + p was estimated from the measured integral cross section of γ + d → Λ + X. The total cross section with respect to the photon energy was compared with the theoretical calculations. It favored the Saclay-Lyon A model calculation with the ratio of the neutral to charged coupling constants of the axial-vector meson, K ₁, as ~ ?1.5. The energy dependence and the magnitude of the total cross section were similar to the total cross section of γ + p → K ⁺ Λ.     

Study of Tensor Correlations in 4He via the 4He(p, dp)d and 4He(p, dp)pn Reactions

Tensor correlations in ⁴He were studied via the (p, dp) reaction at the incident energy of 392 MeV with a focus on spin configurations of correlated pn pairs in ⁴He at high relative momenta ${(P_{\rm rel}^{\rm cor})}$ . The preliminary results show that the correlated pn pair at ${P_{\rm rel}^{\rm cor} = 310 {\rm MeV/c}}$ predominantly has the channel spin S = 1, which is consistent with the characteristics of tensor correlations.     

Spectroscopic Measurement in 9He and 12Be

Spectroscopy for neutron-rich nuclei ⁹He and ¹²Be has been performed by means of heavy-ion double charge exchange (HIDCX) (¹⁸O, ¹⁸Ne) reaction on stable target nuclei ⁹Be and ¹²C, respectively. Several clear peaks in ¹²Be at low excitation energy region even above neutron separation energy have been observed in one-shot measurement, whereas no prominent signals of ⁹He have been observed owing to the small cross section. It is shown that the HIDCX reaction is a new powerful spectroscopic tool for study of unstable neutron-rich nuclei.     

High-efficiency optical coupling to planar photodiode using metal reflector loaded waveguide grating coupler

For the realization of optoelectronic integrated circuits, it is required to incident light perpendicularly to a planar Si photodiode. We propose a high-efficient vertical optical coupler using an amorphous Si optical waveguide grating coupler with top reflector, which is transparent at 850 nm wavelength range. The optical waveguide (width of 300 nm $\times $ height of 100 nm) coupler is analyzed by using finite element method. The coupling efficiency of 80 % is calculated at the grating period of 380 nm, the duty ratio of 0.75 and the depth of 35–65 nm with top metal reflector.     

Applications of Infrared Spectroscopy to Biochemical,Food, and Agricultural Processes

Abstract

Integrated investigations on infrared spectroscopic characteristics of metabolites and on applications of infrared spectroscopy to foodstuff production, food processing, and tasting are described. As the important metabolites, saccharides, which play very important roles in various functions, located in the central position of the metabolic pathways, were selected, and the spectral features of the saccharides and related materials are discussed. Additionally, the applications of spectral analysis to the monitoring of the enzyme reaction and the sugar metabolic processes, which are the main materials in food processing, are described. Furthermore, the studies on the spectroscopic measurements during the cultivation of agricultural products as foodstuffs and in the tasting as the final quality evaluation of foods are represented. These results suggest that infrared spectroscopy could be very effective for evaluating foodstuff production and the tasting of the processed foods and that the applied topics should provide fundamental information about the spectral behavior of the metabolites and bioproducts.     

Proposition of Single Molecular Orientation Determination Using polarization Controlled Beam by Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulators

We have proposed a method to control the three-dimensional electric field in the focus of an optical microscope using two non-twisted liquid crystal spatial light modulators, and to detect the molecular orientation of a single molecule. The three-dimensional electric field is generated by focusing the beam with two dimensional spatial distribution of polarization. The possibility of detection of three-dimensional single molecular orientation was shown by numerical calculations. © 2005 The Optical Society of Japan
